Volunteer Opportunities
Under each category, you will find a list of volunteer opportunities offered at The Village at Kelly Drive and across the agency. Each listing includes the name of the volunteer opportunity, a description, meeting time and a contact, if applicable. Take a look at how you can get involved!

Volunteer Opportunities in Your Community
Beauty Shop
Volunteers help staff with assigned duties in the beauty shop. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Escorting residents to and from beauty shop
- Removing rollers from resident’s hair
- Sweeping up hair on floor as needed
- Folding towels
- Washing beauty shop chairs
- Organizing supplies as needed
Beverage Delivery
Volunteers assist the nursing staff with providing residents with fresh water or other cold beverages as scheduled throughout the day. Responsibilities include but are not limited to delivering water or other cold beverages to each resident in a caring, efficient and timely manner.
Café/Deli Volunteer
Volunteers assist customers at the Cannon’s Corner Café & Clubroom. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Selling food and sundries
- Tallying customers
- Making change
Card Makers
Card Makers create greeting/holiday cards for residents. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Making greeting/holiday cards for resident population
- Delivering cards in person or by mail
Clerical/Office
Clerical/Office volunteers help with general office functions. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Light typing
- Answering phones
- Entering data
- Making copies
- Helping with mailings, filing, stapling, newspaper article clipping or shredding
Dining Services
Dining Services volunteers assist dining room staff with setting up the dining area. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Cleaning and setting dining room tables
- Filling condiments/cereal racks
- Folding napkins
- Simple food preparation
- Washing dishes
Environmental Services/High Touch Cleaner
Volunteers help with light housekeeping. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Using cleaning solution and cloth to support infection control
- Wiping high touch areas such as light switches, hand rails, door knobs, call bells, closet knobs, and other designated areas
Friendly Visitor
Volunteers visit residents to provide friendship and support. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Visiting with assigned residents on a regular basis
- Providing a listening ear and supportive conversation
- Participating in activities like reading, writing, card playing and games or going for a walk.
Garden
Garden volunteers care for and maintain outdoor flower gardens. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Planting
- Weeding
- Grooming
- Pruning
Greeter/Receptionist
Greeter/receptionist volunteers greet and direct visitors. Responsibilities include but are not limited to meeting and greeting people as they enter the building and directing them to where they need to go.
Laundry
Volunteers help with residents’ laundry. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Folding clean laundry
- Delivering clean laundry to residents’ rooms
Library
Library volunteers maintain smooth operation of the library. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Cataloging books online
- Alphabetizing books by author’s last names
- Re-shelving books
- Dusting and straightening books
Life Enrichment
Life Enrichment volunteers help staff conduct programs for residents and/or help residents participate in these programs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assisting with games, crafts, set up or clean-up for programs
- Accompanying residents to and from programs
- Organizing supplies and materials
- Assisting with clerical tasks
Maintenance
Maintenance volunteers help with maintenance jobs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Painting
- Re-screening of windows
- Routine door checks
- Fire extinguisher checks
- Eye wash station checks
Music
Music volunteers provide vocal or instrumental entertainment or support for residents. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Providing vocal or instrumental programs to residents during parties, worship service and special events
- Playing piano for worship services, special events and activities
- Leading group singing
Off-Site Escort
Volunteers accompany residents on outings or to appointments off campus. Responsibilities include but not are limited to:
- Accompanying residents on outings or to appointments on an agency vehicle including medical appointments, group trips to restaurants, theatre trips or other outings.
Pet Therapy Visitor
Pet Therapy Visitors provide a trained pet to safely interact with residents. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Visiting with residents on a regular basis
- Creating opportunity for residents to safely touch and interact with pet.
Seamstress
Volunteers mend clothing for residents. Responsibilities include but not limited to mending clothing for residents and sew on buttons by hand or machine.
Worship Volunteer
Worship Volunteers assist with worship services for residents. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Helping prepare church bulletins
- Changing altar cloths
- Arranging altar flowers
- Making calls to schedule organists and piano players
- Escorting residents to/from services
- Passing out bulletins, hymnals and hearing devices
- Assisting with seating people
- Reading scriptures
- Assisting with communion
- Collecting offerings
Beauty Shop
Volunteers help staff with assigned duties in the beauty shop. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Volunteer Opportunities Across the Agency
There are many opportunities to volunteer with Hospice, whether you want to help once a week, once a month or even just a few hours a month.
Weekly volunteers assist by:
- Providing friendship and companionship to hospice clients.
- Providing aromatherapy, massage therapy, music, reading and more to hospice clients.
- Offering respite so family caregivers can run errands or take care of other personal business.
- Offering support to a family throughout the 13-month bereavement period.
- Assisting with office work, mailings, photocopying, filing, assembling information packets and other duties.
Monthly volunteers assist by:
- Providing aromatherapy, massage therapy, music, reading and more to hospice clients.
- Assisting with office work, mailings, photocopying, filing, assembling information packets and other duties.
- Helping with fundraising and development programs.
- Delivering or baking bereavement bread for a family after the death of a loved one and offering condolences.
- Sewing handmade memory bears for a family after the death of a loved one.
